The Clouds at Sunset Abstract – Simon Scaife
To me, an ‘Abstract” is an art form relating to or denoting art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but rather seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, colours, and textures. In this instance the author has used reality [which is clearly visible] then distorted the result to make it appear differently. The sunset is depicted in delicate hues of reds, oranges and mauves. The land mass is a black silhouette. Having distorted the original image, a bright yellow background has been added. Yellow is a colour synonymous with the Sun but in this instance I feel the image lacks cohesive construction and the bright yellow mass is not complementary to the concept.
