Specimen - Geoff Perry
This is an unusual but interesting approach to present and photograph an insect - this method of mounting a specimen does ensure it won't fly away so you have the advantage to control the background and particularly the lighting. This image is very well presented, but notice that the viewer is drawn to the area that is sharp and brighter - the red section of the wings - whilst the head and particularly the eyes really are the most interesting parts of the insect that we are drawn to. Having this fascinating specimen photographed in this 'studio setting' both these adjustments could have been easily made that would have lifted its appeal .
